The Newport Public Library Foundation is an independent, non-profit
organization promoting private donations to enhance and enrich Newport
Public Library's resources and services.
Newport Public Library serves the community as a center for information,
recreation, culture, and education. From toddlers to retirees, students
to business owners, people from all segments of the community come to
Newport Public Library to find practical answers, to develop talents,
to stretch the imagination, and simply to enjoy the beautiful facility
and its collection of local artists' work. Newport Public
Library is one of the best used libraries in Oregon.
In addition to a fine book collection, the Library also offers video, DVD,
and music recordings, audio books, magazines, newspapers, large print
books, the Internet and other
electronic information sources.
Through the Internet the library provides the catalog and full-text magazine
databases wherever you are.
Current technology and professional staff make the Library the community
gateway to a wealth of regional, national, and international information resources.
A full range of children's programs, flourishing adult programs,
outreach services to the elderly and homebound,
and a vital volunteer program all make it clear
that the Library is a place for everyone.
While local government support reflects the high value the community places
on Newport Library's services, all traditional public funding is facing
limits in Oregon. Private gifts and donations make the critical difference
when it comes to maintaining a tradition of outstanding facilities, collections,
and services.
It's been said that a community's quality of life can be judged by the quality
of its public library. Your gift to the Newport Public Library Foundation is an
enduring gift to the whole community, today and for the future.
If you match your contribution
to the Newport Library Foundation with a donation to the Oregon Cultural Trust,
your gift might qualify for a tax credit. For details, see the Trust web site,

The Newport Public Library Foundation has supported the following Newport Public
Library projects:
The 1999-2000 Building Expansion. The Foundation raised
$150,000 to contribute to the expansion project, largely in
furnishings and equipment.
Adult Programs. With Foundation support, the Library carries out
NEWPORT READS, a series of community events to encourage everyone to read and discuss
the same book. The Foundation supports
additional programs with community partners throughout the year.
Library Outreach Van. The Foundaton purchased and donated a new
Windstar van for use by the Newport Public Library's Outreach Service to
Elderly People program.
The outreach program serves 12 sites, including retirement and assisted
living residences, nursing homes, rehabilitation and recovery facilities,
and the adult activity center. Approximately 250 books are circulated each week.
Meeting Room Furnishings. The Foundation is providing funds
to equip the new library meeting room.
Drive-up book drop. Proceeds from the Foundation Book Sale
on the main floor of the library purchased a curbside book drop.
Endowment Fund. The Library Foundation has established an
endowment fund with the Oregon Community Foundation to plan for the
library's needs far into the future.
There are many ways contributors may choose to give, including:
- gifts of money
- gifts of property
- gifts of stocks or bonds
- gifts of capital gains
- gifts of life insurance
- bequests in wills

- Honor with Books
Donations to the Foundation may be tax deductible. The Foundation is registered
as a private, 501©(3) non-profit with the IRS. The Foundation's endowment
with the Oregon Community Foundation provides the opportunity for life income and
charitable remainder trusts. Donors should consult their
financial advisors regarding specific tax benefits of their gifts.
