Patti called the meeting to order at 5:15

The February 21st minutes were approved.

Librarian’s Report: Wyma thanked the Foundation for all their work participating in and recognizing National Library Week.  Richard was Zorro on a recent radio show, and the staff appreciates the coffee and refreshments brought this week.  This week will culminate with two Zorro programs. Tamora Pierce’s program was a big success, and we also had four Oregon Book Award authors read from their works this month. Rebecca plans to hold summer reading programs at Literacy Park this summer.  The library will donate a special collection of books to the Victims Assistance Program and My Sister’s Place, thanks to a gift in honor of Melba Kamb.  We will also provide a brochure about resources available at the Library.  Cindy suggested Spanish books, also.  Wyma passed around a draft for a PUD mailing, which was referred to the fundraising committee.  She will need a list of targeted spending for next year that has been approved by the Executive Committee to update the mailing.  We received revised circulation statistics; it did go up 3%.

Treasurer’s Report:  Charlotte reported that we are spending the OCH grant for NEWPORT READS.  Jan Atkins has not cashed his check yet.  Interest is better, but not doing well.   Book sales are doing well.

NEWPORT READS ZORRO!  The 7th period class will set up 75 chairs at the library on Thursday.  The room will be open around 6:30.  Richard will make introductions.  We have 75 masks for Saturday’s costume party.  Richard and Carol will be judges for the costumes.  Walt Duvall and Marian will take photos with Zorro.  There will not be popcorn or water available as had been planned.

NEWPORT READS 2008: The committee will meet 4:30 – 5:30 at Wyma’s on May 2.  The books under consideration are Ender’s Game and Power of One.  They agreed to drop All Over but the Shouting and Life of Pi. We will participate in the statewide reading program in 2009.

Other Business: Patti read a fundraising report from Michele; OCF is bringing a planned giving seminar to the library on May 16th.

The Foundation retreat will be June 20th at Cindy’s house.  Wyma will bring a list of library requests.  We will go over our accomplishments, review the year, and plan next year. The executive committee will devise a calendar and budget.  Richard offered to bring tapas, Patti will bring a salad, Cindy will provide beverages, Carol F. will bring a cherry cake, and Frances will bring fruit.

Cindy is preparing the next news article, which will talk about Card for Every Body.

The Foundation set up a meeting to write thank-you notes on May 3rd in Wyma’s office, at 4:00.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:45.
